A Gift From the Arctic Circle

Baby, it's cold outside!  When I got up this morning, it was -28F (-33.33C) with a windchill of -48F.  The governor closed all schools in the state because it's too cold for children to be outside waiting for a school bus or walking to school.  If I were still teaching, I'd be pretty excited!

It looks pretty with the sun shining, but don't let that fool you. This kind of cold is dangerous.

Because Minnesota is known for extreme winters, there is always a plethora of "It's so cold" jokes going around.  I thought I'd share a few, because everyone knows, laughing warms you up!

It's so cold that . . .
Pet stores are selling puppies, gerbils, and penguins.
You have to break the smoke off your chimney.
You open the fridge to heat your house.
You have to chisel your dog off the fire hydrant.
I chipped my tooth on my soup.
Cows are giving ice cream.
Polar bears are booking vacations to Hawaii.
Sled dogs are making emergency calls for AAA.
Snowmen come inside at night.
I left Starbucks with a mocha and got into the car with a fudgesicle.
Scotsmen are wearing down-filled kilts.

  9. Wow … these cold jokes are hilarious. I laughed out loud at the very thought of “chipping a tooth on my soup”. It is brutal in a lot of places in Canada too … but not in the West where I am … yet!

  15. My kids used to adore snow days too when we lived in Europe, we do have the same here for extreme heat... Your weather has made the Aussie news! We are keeping an eye on it as we are just about to pack up daughter number 2 for 6 mths in New York and she doesn't have a coat, nor any chance of buying anything half decent here (except a ski jacket).
Loved your jokes - LOL I did at the one about the dog and the fire hydrant!

  18. Love the jokes, I would like to see real winter just once. What we get in the UK is nothing, I know that Scotland gets snow but not the extreme cold and for so long a time. Perhaps i will have to take up travel as a hobby.

  27. Glad to see you still have sense of humour in those terrible temperatures. It must be awful to have to go to work in that weather. We have seen it on TV brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. We have just had a 4 day heatwave with temps at 40°C/109°F. You keep warm and safe.

  30. I like your jokes. I read, and that is no joke, that the polar bear in the zoo in Chicago had to stay inside because it was too cold (I guess he did not have the same amount of fat as those in the wild.) It was very cold here too at the beginning of the week – the coldest since 1970 I heard them say. Today though it was sunny and 62 F – what a difference in just a few days.

  31. Thanks for your comment on our cats. I think it would be hard to get used to -28, but your robins seem to have adjusted. Love the "how cold" jokes!
