Sunday in the City

One of my daughters lives and works in the big city--Minneapolis.  We spent a fun day there together, starting at the Minneapolis Farmer's Market.

I bought local spring salad greens, purslane, and cilantro, grown in a greenhouse I'm sure, some bedding plants for my garden, and a new toy for my cat.  Lots of things to taste with homemade salsas being the most abundant.  That makes Sarah happy because she was born in Mexico.

Next stop was Minneapolis Institute of Arts where we caught the tail end of an exhibit from last weekend called Art in Bloom. The idea is, artists design floral arrangements that interpret art from the museum's holdings.

This is Adamina, daughter of the earth, in flowers, moss, and grass.

Doncha love her hair?

This is my daughter Sarah with a gorgeous orchid display

Yes, that's me.  I told you we had fun!

Sarah works for a German company that supports the arts, including the exhibit we were really there for: Matisse, the Master of Modern.  I'll show you those photos later in the week.

Next stop, lunch.  I love dining out with Sarah because eating is always an adventure.  We were headed one place but as we were parking the car, we got intrigued by an African restaurant in a very ethnic neighborhood and Sarah thought she remembered reading that they served lion.  Lion?!!  No thanks, but we had to go in and see what they did serve.  The food was a-mazing.  The cuisine was Ethiopian and I can't remember the names of what we had, except that is a big glass of mango juice in front of my plate.  And we each got a banana, which we weren't quite sure what to do with so we took it home for later.

Thanks for reading my blog. I love to read your comments.

  1. What a fabulous day and yes, I love the lovely hair on that statue. I've been to an Ethiopian restaurant in D.C. and really enjoyed it. Your meal looks really scrumptious!

  3. Having recently been looking at sculpture displayed in amongst garden flowers I was interested to see a slightly different take on a similar theme - and I liked what I saw. Ethiopian - that's a new one to me!

  6. What a coincidence! Saturday I went to the opening day of the St. Paul Farmers Market, and bought several red geranium hanging plants for my front porch. I'd love to know the name of the Ethiopian restaurant so I could give it a try. I have my posts scheduled way ahead of time, and I'd love to have you visit on Mother's Day when I plan to begin my own Art in Bloom photo posts. I invite you to come visit before that, too! Have a good week!
