Thanksgiving Day

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday, a whole day set apart to relax, consider our blessings, and be thankful. What could be more heartwarming than that?

I had planned to drive to my sister's house, almost 300 miles away, but a snowstorm yesterday changed my plans. Instead I will be having dinner with my daughters and their families tonight.

Along with the snow yesterday, the weatherman is also bringing us the coldest Thanksgiving Day in 30 years. When I got up this morning, my window thermometer showed -2 degrees F ( -19 C) and there was frost on the inside of the windows.

It has been my tradition to do a hike in the morning, before the family is up, before I start cooking dinner. Some years the weather has been quite warm and I've only needed a jacket. Today I was bundled up from head to toe in my warmest down parka, fleece pants, hood, scarf, and two layers of mittens.

A beautiful walk to think my grateful thoughts, so many things to be thankful for!

  1. Happy Thanksgiving Cynthia! It's a shame you didn't get to see your sister but it sounds like you had a good time with your daughters and families in a very white landscape. Enjoy the rest of the week xx

  2. Good for you for still making the effort to go out in that cold. Pity about having to change your plans at the last minute but I'm sure you had a very enjoyable time with your daughters and grandchildren.

  3. Sorry you didn't get to your sister's. Your daughters were probably happy your plans were changed. Those two pictures are so beautiful. I would love to have them framed!

  5. The snow pic is beautiful. We don't do Thanksgiving here in New Zealand, but I'm thankful for the beauty all around all the same! And thankful that it doesn't ever get cold like that where we live.

  6. Happy Thanksgiving Day.
You WENT for a walk in that cold - Goodness - just Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
The 27th was yesterday here and any visiting Americans would not have enjoyed, nor will they forget
the weather display of catastrophic storm cell collisions that hammered Brisbane for 40 minutes of
absolute mayhem. A morning of "saunaville" and then appeared total pitch black skies, absolute silence and then wham, bam ( and no thanks
from the ma'mas). Hail stones in some areas were almost the size of footballs and gave no mercy to anything.
The Insurance companies are ducking for cover. God only knows what the total cost will be.
Yes, I don't think any US tourists will forget this Brisbane Thanksgiving Day, 2014.
    Cheers
    Aussie Col
