Farm to Table

On a visit to a Minneapolis museum my friend Heather and I happened upon Wise Acre Restaurant, housed in a funky converted gas station. It's a farm-to-table restaurant where 95% of the organic food served is grown on their Minnesota farm, picked in the morning and by afternoon on the table. I love this idea, fair prices for the farmer and the food was what you would expect -- amazing.

While waiting for a table you can watch the cooks, or you can ponder the large farm photos of what will be (shhhh!) on your plate soon.

Our brunch. Mmmmmm!

Not only does the farm have a restaurant, but also a garden shop in a cottage next door. On the way over, these goats graze on a grass roof atop a shed covering the dumpster.

On the way out I said goodbye and thank you to my new friend.

Thank you for reading my blog. I love to see your comments and will visit your blog in return.

  7. INGENIOUS! From garden/paddock/pen to table and all by the same owners. Certainly well named also - Wise Acre.
Could only happen in that enterprising state of "10,000 LAKES". No wonder I loved visiting Minnesota so much.
(Oh yes, one exception especially in Rochester etc. - the "deposits on the footpaths by those visiting Canadian geese!! - ha ha - still it did improve my somewhat "lacklustre" footwork!)

I think something like this is found in some country areas here - up Eumundi way north of Brisbane and in the "Tweed" to
Ballina area of NSW, the Barossa Valley of South Australia - just some areas that come to mind. I know that any meals
that I have eaten in these areas in some "strangely named" cafes / restaurants with in and outdoor seating, the food has been
    fantastic.
Yet people still flock to those unmentionable and avoided by me under pain of a cruel death - crucifixion being one - MacDonalds!!! ???

Very interesting report - many thanks
    Cheers
    Aussie Col
PS: Some rain overnight and could be some more - great to follow up that destruction from that bloody storm.
The lawns and gardens will be happy.

  9. Very cool that they converted an old gas station into this new business. I don't typically see gas stations being repurposed... they just knock them down and rebuild, which is too bad!

  11. That sounds like such a charming place! The restaurant--without the gas station part--reminds me of one I visited many, many years ago in Michigan called the Milk Pail (I think) that grew their own everything.

  16. That new friend of yours looks lovely. The place is cool, you get the freshest fsrm products. I was stunned by their pictures inside where you can see what they are preparing. They really have to hang them there? I bet some people won't feel comfortable eating after seeing those. I won't mind.
