March, At Last

Up from the sea, the wild north wind is blowing

Under the sky's gray arch;

Smiling I watch the shaken elm boughs, knowing

It is the wind of March.

John Greenleaf Whittier.

American poet

We have a snowstorm coming tomorrow night, but spring has come to my windowsill.

  1. The daffodil. How I long to be in the Lake District sometime during the next few weeks to see that 'host of golden daffodils'

  2. Well, enjoy that burst of happy yellow as you look out upon white.

  3. Such a beautiful daffodil! We woke up to freezing rain and it was beginning to look like an ice storm. Thankfully, the temperature has gotten above freezing now!

  4. You are lucky that a flower has appeared at your windosill. At my place we have spring outside.

  5. Autumn here - Australia and our Southern colleagues eg: South Africa, Chile, Argentina, NZ and many other places - not so close to the
Equator start now our "march" to winter - nothing like the winters in your neck of the woods!

Those who can here start planning their winter escapes for the warmer climes of Europe and North America!
This year may be different - the value of the Aus $ against other currencies!

    Enjoy the days getting warmer,
    Cheers

  6. Lovely quote. Haven't read Whittier in a long time. Thank I'll order a book from the library. Just seems like you need to hold a book in your lap when you read poetry.

  7. If we could choose, I would take the spring on your windowsill over the snowstorm heading in. Got a good book and some knitting handy for it?

  8. Cynthia I started reading Whittier on-line and just had to share a quote and give you credit in today's post.

  12. Your windowsill sure is pretty:) Yes here is our storm....I am staying home all day Tuesday! A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL SURGE SOUTH ACROSS THE REGION MONDAY NIGHT. NORTHWEST WINDS WILL STRENGTHEN BEHIND THE FRONT... WITH SUSTAINED WINDS AROUND 30 MPH AND GUSTS TO 45 MPH WEST OF THE RED RIVER VALLEY ON TUESDAY. IN ADDITION... 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW ARE POSSIBLE MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY MORNING. COMBINED WITH THE STRONG WINDS... THE SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MAY LEAD TO DIFFICULT TRAVEL CONDITIONS MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY... INCLUDING THE MORNING COMMUTE.

  14. Cynthia, winter is holding on hard here too. Wish I had thought to purchase a few bulbs to force this winter.
