Oh Pickles!

A fine Saturday morning and we were off to the farmers market, first one of the season, just crossing the big bridge into town, when a piece of metal flew off a scrap truck, cartwheeled along the pavement, and sliced the left rear tire.  Whoosh! out went the air.
No place to stop on the bridge so we inched on and pulled over at the first opportunity,
coming to rest under the Georgetown water tower, next to the steel mill and right where all the logging trucks make the turn off the bridge and lumber into the entrance of the paper mill.
Ouch!

Not the most pleasant place to sit for a couple hours, waiting for roadside assistance.  And apparently we weren't the first to have a flat tire here.

The only thing flatter than our tire -- a shoe, squished by the heavy logging trucks going by.

It was hot and boring, and by the time we were on our way again with two new tires ... four and a half hours later.

  1. Not the ideal way to spend your day for sure! But thank goodness for roadside assistance.

  3. You two sure picked a great place to get a flat tyre. Try if this happens
again to select a more picturesque spot to do the "waiting game".

Funny the way you spell TIRE?????

  6. No wonder you said ouch on this one. You hate to e in a situation were you have to buy tires on the road. The only good thing was that nobody got hurt.

  7. So it was two flats. No wonder you had to wait if you had only one spare.

  8. What a bad start to a Saturday at the market. Glad the damage wasn't any worse. That sound kinda dangerous.

  9. You asked about tree camping on Mt. Pilatus. It was still winter on that mountain side so no summer activities were open. I did see a picture in their brochure and it looked like tents strung between trees.

  12. What a shame, thank goodness for road assistance although 4 hours seems a long time to wait.

  13. Dear Cynthia, you don't say anything here about being scare, but if I saw that piece of metal flying toward me, I would have been terrified for the seconds it took for it to hit something. I would, I think, have feared it's coming through the windshield. I'm so relieved that it was only the tires that were injured. Peace.

  14. I'm paranoid about loosely packed trucks for flying objects falling off. Pass or stay back is always my first thought....
