Hurricane Central -- Laurens SC Divsion

The governor-ordered mandatory evacuation of Georgetown began at noon Tuesday and we scrambled to find accommodations that accept pets.  We ended up in the northwestern corner of the state in a motel in Laurens, pop. 9000.  Lucky for us, the old motel was just finishing renovations and we have a spacious room with all new furnishings, including fridge and microwave.

Rosie, on the road, eyes peeking over the edge.  Very grumpy.

Bob, thrilled to be going for a RIDE anywhere WITH THE PEOPLE, in the CAR.  Very happy!

Last night from the motel: the outer bands of Flo.  You can begin to see the rotation in the clouds.  How can something so beautiful be so destructive and deadly?  The predictions change from hour to hour but at the moment it is expected to come ashore about an hour north of Georgetown at Myrtle Beach with winds reaching 105 mph and storm surge up to 13 feet. We will most likely be among the hurricane refugees in Laurens until Saturday of Sunday.

  4. I heard on the radio that AirBnB hosts were offering their accommodations for free. Too bad you didn't get one of those. You sound comfortable and safe. Hope the damage is minimal back home.

  6. I've been so worried about all of you. I'm so glad you found some accommodations until the danger is over. Our storm has passed through and we got a lot of rain, but not the destructive winds, thank goodness. I'm hoping Florence weakens substantially.

  7. From news reports it seems to be somewhat abating in ferocity but the amount of
rain in Florence is mind boggling! Tidal problems and flooding seem to be the main
    dangers now.
The Governor of South Carolina was on the news here in Australia giving an update
on the evacuation situation - my God he sure has a lovely good old SOUTHERN DRAWL!

I hope the police are vigilant - some of the evacuated towns irrespective of the boarding up
could be a looters "paradise". How I detest these despicable cretins of scum.....on par with
    bloody arsonists!

    Enjoy your unexpected "holiday" !!!!!
    Cheers and beers for Paul

  8. Glad you all found a nice place to stay during the storm. We were prepared for the very worst, but since the hurricane turned slightly, and headed more your way, it has lessened the amount of wind and rain a little for us. I am still a little nervous about it all.

  9. Lovely to have this update, been thinking about you lots. Reading how some people have chosen to stay as they haven't been able to move their pets. I am wishing you all the best. Take care

  12. If you've never been to Greenville (which is about an hour north of Laurens up 385), go investigate a neat area. Reedy River Falls Park downtown Greenville is a very unique park. Glad you are safe. Best wishes for minimal damage when you return to your home.

  13. Stay safe and lets hope that the damage caused by the storm is not as bad as some predict. I think Bob probably has the right attitude to the disruption.
