Knit Two, Purl Two

I said I would post pictures of the projects that kept me busy before Christmas, and here they are, finally.

First, to give a little perspective on my work . . .

These were on Etsy and she had 155 orders logged, so apparently there is a market.

If you didn't get a pair, there is always next year.

This sweater was on the rack at a favorite charity shop. The right sleeve reached from my sister's shoulder to her ankles!

I've had a similar problem making socks, so I feel for this knitter. You know. Sometimes things just get away from you!

The real curiosity is, can the shop really think someone will buy this?

Well, now I think you are ready to see my modest creations, so here you go.

I made eight pairs of boot cuffs and leg warmers for friends and family in different colors and patterns. This is the only pair I remembered to take a photo of. They are wool, warm and comfy and fun to make. I'm always looking for ways to use up small amounts of yarn I have left over, and these used up lots of those.

My daughter wanted this so I had to learn to knit a cable. I'm convinced with YouTube, I can now do anything!

It has fancy black buttons to wear it as a cowl that came from one of my grandma's dresses. Sarah loves it.

A hat for Mason used up more leftovers from other projects.

A green car, an orange car, and a blue and yellow truck. The first time it was too big so I made it twice.

I think I will start earlier next Christmas.

  2. Those crochet shorts are interesting Cynthia. Not something I would have thought of making!

You made lots of lovely presents to give away, handmade gifts are always the best.

  3. I've never heard of boot cuffs, but they are adorable. My daughter would love one in Illinois just about now, I'm sure. It's freezing over there. You are so talented!

  6. Wonderful creations Cynthia. I especially love the toddler's toque but also love the bootie socks. I can knit but seldom do for presents. For some reason, knitting is not my first thought when it comes to giving gifts. I think I'm just not fast enough.

  7. Good God! Your knitting?????????????????
No wonder the "models" in the top photo didn't want their faces shown!
Who is hell's name would be seen dead in those u-pants???
Well I hope they are u-pants so as they cannot be seen by the public???

Hmmmmmmm! Yes, Melbourne sport would be a better option than
Minnesota knitting - get the message, eh? ha ha.
Well knitting warm woollen men's BLOOMERS for sure!!!
Having seen those "bloomers" I think I will appreciate the "sauna weather" of
    Brisbane more lovingly!
    Cheers

  8. You did a wonderful job with your knitting. I'm a crocheter and have never tried to knit. It keeps my hands busy in the evening by the TV. I'm currently doing a baby blanket for a new nephew. Love the leg warmers, and I've seen some of these on top of boots. Fun!

    1. Red mate!
I would dread to see you on an ice-rink in Cynthia's colourful "BLOOMERS" - ha ha.
I would suspect that you'd be on the front pages of the major papers in Canada!!!

Good ole Alberta no doubt is freezing in the winter, but I would draw the line with putting
those on - and I hate the cold.

Yep, the beanie is very chic. But here in Brisbane it wouldn't get much use except in August.

  10. Love, Love, Love your handmade gifts. I've run into the problem of making hats too small for the little one by trying to make it without her nearby to gauge how I was doing. I need to start using YouTube to learn a few new stitches myself. As for the thrift store sweater, I would have bought it just to take it apart and have yarn for projects I wanted to make, that is if I could get a low enough price on it.

Thank you for sharing your boot cuffs. I can't believe leg warmers have come back in style but since they have I plan to make a few pairs for gifts myself.

  12. Love the colour of the cowl and the boot cuffs were a real delight. The pants made me smile, I wonder what sort of person would wear them????

  14. The hat for the little one is great, it suits him so well. The bermuda's however, mmm, who wants to walk like that, certainly not a man I think. Knitting cables is complicated but fun to do and the result is so nice. I once made a baby cardigan with cables in very thin wool in my last days of pregnacy waiting for my daughter who decided to come 10 days later than expected. It kept me busy.

  15. The hats are lovely as is the cable you have done.
What a lot of work in the coat with the extra long sleeve, perhaps the person who did that got carried away and forgot to stop..

  16. I would use the sweater for the yarn.

Thanks. I chose pink so if I fall in a hole head first someone can find me.

    Have a great day.

  17. Mason is so adorable in that hat! I can't believe those cheeks of his! :) And the others - I love your knitting, Cynthia. Always so precise and even...unlike my still unfinished scarf! lol

  18. Gorgeous knitted pressies - I bet they were very well received. i think that huge charity shop jumper would make a great dog bed, or maybe someone would bother to unpick it. That would be the kind of knitting I would do, seeing as I can't knit (don't have the patience).

  19. I wish I could knit! Darn it! I love the hat on Mason. He is so cute! A friend of mine was wearing the cutest pair of boot cuffs that she made. You are so talented!
