Happy St Patrick's Day!
Forsyth Park, Savannah, Georgia
Once the site of the camps of the French and American armies during one of the bloodiest battles of the American Revolution, today a park for those of all ages enjoying the beauty of spring.
Savannah has been celebrating St Patrick's Day for 191 years and holds a parade and street celebration today that draws up to 400,000 people. The azaleas, camellias, a little bit of green water in the fountain, 80 degree temps -- celebration enough for me!
I recently read about the cities that have green in their rivers, canals and fountains. yup, Savannah was mentioned!!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful venue for a celebration.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty photos. You must be enjoying being past the snow.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great trip! I have never been to Georgia. So . . . are you Irish?
ReplyDeleteNot a drop of the Irish in me! I do like Guinness and Irish music, however, and I'm sure that counts for something.
DeleteHappy St. Patrick's to you. Teachers always had to be ready for St Patick's
ReplyDeleteIt sounds really lovely in your neck of the woods. The azaleas are so beautiful. Happy St. Patty's Day!
ReplyDeleteSavannah must have a lot of Irish background from early settlement times?
ReplyDeleteCertainly turned on a fine, sunny day for the parades etc.
St.Paddy's day parades here are held on the weekend - so we here in Brisbane
had it on Sunday - the Irish pubs that still exist are chock-a-block full of revellers
all trying to outdo each other with Irish accents - quite funny!
So many Leprechaun dressed people than ever wandering - maybe "staggering" around!
All great fun.
Cheers
Colin (1/4 Irish and bloody proud of it!)
It's nice when places with sad history are turned into parks where people could spend some time to relax or to ponder. I wonder if young generation know much about what the place was before.
ReplyDeleteCynthia , St.Patrick's Day is very nice festival At my school we usually celaebrating it wearing green clothes
ReplyDeleteHappy St. Patrick's Day to you. It looks from the pictures you will be enjoying your day more than I will. There is nothing special going on in my community and the temperatures here are half of what you have.
ReplyDeleteEven the water nymphs are celebrating with green! Your spring looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Savannah but it looks so beautiful and hope some day I can make it to the South :-) Hope you had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day if you celebrate.
ReplyDeleteWe don't do green water as yet..some celebrate and others don't down here..
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Savannah, we've been gone, we always leave for St. Patrick's Day, hope you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteYou must be enjoying that sunshine after your harsh winter. Seems you are having a good time in Georgia.
ReplyDeleteThe green fountain must have been fun to see. Sort of like Chicago and the green river.
