Strawberry Fields (Forever)

Since strawberry shortcake was on the menu for Easter Sunday, a trip to Dempsey's farm on

St Helena Island to pick strawberries was in order.

Storms were brewing, with the oddest clouds in the sky.

They looked like mounds of whipped cream.

Kids were out of school for Good Friday

so there were lots of families

picking - and eating - their way down the

rows.

As I was picking - and eating - my way down a row,the Beatles' song Strawberry Fields Forever was going around in my head, maybe because The Writer used to sing it to me.

I always puzzled over what it "meant" and I still don't know, but I like the dreamy confusion.

(I wanted to put a YouTube video here so you could have a walk down memory lane with me. But, Blogsy, the app I use to blog, no longer supports YouTube, so the best I can do is a link.)

So, Strawberry Fields Forever. I hope you enjoy it!

  1. The strawberries looked big and juicy in your photos. The Beatles song is now an ear worm I'll have for the rest of the night. Hope you've had a good Easter.

  8. Too early for fresh local strawberries here but we can get imported ones. The Beatles song brought back many happy memoires.

  10. I don't know what the song means either, but I went to the link and listened again anyway. What's up with George's hat? That was interesting. But picking and eating is the best way to go, isn't it? Big field. Looks like fun!

  12. Well, if you believe Wikipedia, there isn't a real hidden meaning - just a Lennon connection. :)

  13. I like the guitar in the song, I was never a BIG Beatles fan...I tend toward Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkle, the Eagles, Mamas and the Papas etc...
The fields look great but my back hurts just thinking about picking! :)

  15. Oh my gosh! We used to go strawberry picking in Wisconsin. Sigh... such a long time ago. Fresh strawberries are so expensive here in Hawaii. Your photos bring back such lovely memories.
