We had planned the trip for when we could get care for the dogs but at the last minute Paul's daughter was unable to care for them. No room in the inn at any of the dog boarding kennels or the vet so we finally had to ask a sweet neighbor. Since we are new in the neighborhood we hate to impose on new friends but it couldn't be helped.
Rosie (my cat) is quite self-sufficient and prefers to be left on her own with food, water, and litter boxes. No visitors, please! The dogs, however, need people, so Malcolm it was.
Bob the border collie,
Tybee the Chow/German shepherd mix.
Tybee was 18 1/2 years old but healthy and happy except for arthritis in his back and back legs. So it was a shock when we got a call that he suddenly passed away with his big old head on Malcolm's lap Thursday afternoon.
We got up very early Friday morning to get on the road for the 9 1/2 hour drive home to take care of Tybee. Maybe an hour into the trip The Writer received a phone call. His nephew was killed in Korea in a tragic accident! He was 34 years old and left behind a wife and two very young sons. This young man was a Peace Corps worker in Africa, now teaching English in Korea. Why, why, why ...

So, how was your week? I'll be around soon for a visit to your blog.
Cynthia I am so sorry for your loss. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about Tybee and the Writers nephew. Such sad news all around. I hope your trip home was uneventful after all the bad news. :(
ReplyDelete?RIP life is too short and so fragile
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your losses. Our pets are such an important part of our life. As to the nephew, road travel just scares the beJesus out of me any more. Too many idiots texting. We had 2 near misses last week. Hope things get better for you.
ReplyDeleteOne tragedy is so hard, but two--my heart goes out to you.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your loss . These little guys are very important in our lives and we miss them.
ReplyDeleteSad news re: Paul's nephew and to think he also was dedicating his life for the good
ReplyDeleteof others - tragic, really tragic.
I think your dog had a really long life. 18 1/2 years for a long is exceptionally long.
Chins up, and sincere sympathy to you both and the families.
Storm season has started with a vengeance already but at least SO FAR no damage in my
neck of the woods and it does cool the nights down.
This "tossing out" business is strange - what to take from treasures that mean a lot but
just take up room??? Any ideas, or just toss, toss and toss.!!!!!!
Cheers
Colin
Ooops - 18 1/2 years for a DOG is etc........ (above.)

ReplyDeleteWhat a sad story, must be so hard for you to loose a long time friend but he had a good life and had reached a respectable age. Always so difficult to say goodbye to a pet. But the loss of the nephew is very tragic for everybody.
ReplyDeleteWish you all the best.
Oh Cynthia, what sad news to get, any time, but especially while away and concerned about leaving the dogs anyway. Then to hear about the nephew. How very sad. I will sure be thinking about you both today. Love, Henny

ReplyDeleteOh Cynthia I am so sorry. To lose a loved pet when you are not there must have been very distressing and then to receive the tragic news of the nephew all within 24 hours is just too much grief.
