Interesting. As for why his wife left him - well who really cares. It is none of our business, is it? Still this history is fascinating, but confusing.
I'm fascinated why this enclave during the horrific Civil War was left untouched by Confederate forces. I can't seem to find any historical facts on it - an area between Savannah, Ga and Charleston, Sc which could be used for naval forces to be left alone?????? Makes as much sense as Generalfeldmarhsall Rommel suggesting that the Normandy beaches be left alone as a tourist beach in WW2. But we know that wasn't the case.
Very good blog, Cynthia - makes you THINK. Well done. Cheers Colin
