I was out in the woods cutting greens to make our Christmas wreath and saw this gorgeous camellia tucked into a bush. What a beautiful surprise!
I cut it, carried it into the kitchen, and started to put it in a vase.
From deep in the petals out popped this little guy!
He gingerly climbed onto my hand and I escorted him back outside.
He is about two inches long.
Cynthia we grow camelia in pots in Poland but I don't like frogs because I am afraid of them..
ReplyDeleteThat is just the cutest thing. He looks a little groggy, like you woke him up. A groggy froggy.
ReplyDeleteThat was a pleasant surprise, both the camellia and frog.
ReplyDeleteYou know, not everyone has a vase. I have them.
A gorgeous blossom in such a lovely color. Hope the small vistor survives all alone outside without his protective "home."
ReplyDeleteHe should be hunkered down for winter, but it's been too warm so they're still out. Your camellia is beautiful, our won't bloom till January.
ReplyDeleteOkay . . . the pix are fabulous. The frog is cute and the bloom is beautiful, but I had to smile that Henny Penny was the one who thought of groggy froggy. I love to read what other commenters say.
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos.
ReplyDeleteThat was two interesting discoveries...the flower and the frog.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little bonus!
ReplyDeleteStunning photographs, a beautiful camellia and a wonderful bonus surprise!
ReplyDeleteA Christmas frog. Now that is unusual.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photos you made of the frog, what a surprise for you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise and he is so cute.
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise! Great photos Cynthia.
ReplyDeleteI would have freaked out with that little guy popping out. Beautiful flowers!
ReplyDeleteHow precious. Reminds me of my youth in south Louisiana. Lovely camellias and tree frogs. Next time you see a camellia blossom, cut it very far down on the branch. You can then grow a new plant from the little branch. Put it in the garden in winter, and put a clear glass jar over it. In spring, check often for any signs of swelling leaf buds, then remove the jar. I grew many this way. Put pine straw around the little bush as it grows.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on propagating camellias. I'm going back to take a cutting of this one and see if I can get it to grow. It's such a pretty one.
DeleteJust be sure to place the branch far enough down so that a node is below the soil level. :)
DeleteWhat a cute visitor. And a beautiful bloom!
ReplyDeleteJust in case you are wondering, he is a "Green Tree Frog". I've had one, when I still owned my farm. They have a very loud voice. It's easy to Google search them. It's been a while, but I published a similar post. Great photos !
ReplyDeleteWe have a whole chorus of them all summer long when it rains. I couldn't believe anything so small could make such a loud noise as they do!
DeleteWhat a pretty December surprise! Both the flower and the frog:) Coolish here about 13 this AM but warming to about 34 today!! Heat wave! :)
